Engineered Without Compromise for World-Class Competition Shooting

Company History and Mission

Some time ago, my efforts in competitive long-range rifle shooting forced me to conclude that the rifle I wanted to use simply did not exist. Not that a good rifle couldn't be had, but rather that it would have to consist of separately purchased components - an action here, a barrel there, a stock from who knows where. But that wasn't all, as the real choice I had to make was in how it was all going to come together, done by me or another rifle-smith who would put me on a list and tell me to be patient. Not being a very patient person, I chose the former over the latter, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Putting our heads together, Tony Gilkes and I decided that for the long-range competitive shooting world, a complete rifle ought to be made available from one source. This would be similar to what Anschutz did for the smallbore world, although on a very much smaller scale. The difference in the two markets is really huge.

The same mission with Ross Precision Manufacturing, Inc. is still in place. The three words Tony and I originally picked for our logo were chosen carefully. We intended that they would be real, both for us and our customers. Of the three, the one that will most often capture the attention of viewers on this site is "innovation." After all, what's the point of starting things from scratch if you don't solve some problems you see along the way.

What you will see in the pictures presented here, are some concepts that, while not necessarily original, still fall into the category of being somewhat unconventional. Nevertheless, they are tested and proven concepts that really did solve some of the problems we believed needed attention.

Company Profile

For now, Ross Precision Manufacturing, Inc. is about as small as a company can be and still identify itself as such. There are only two employees, and only one of these is actually involved with machining and assembling components. However, the actions are fabricated in a separate shop in the deep south. What is made in the shop here in Michigan is everything else having to do with the aluminum/magnesium stock, sight mounts, front sights, etc.

Being as small as this, puts us in good company with nearly all of the other competitive rifle component suppliers, a list too long to mention. That should  not surprise you if you have come to understand how small our shooting community really is.

What this means is that the shop is not always staffed. Since I still try to keep my hand in with my own shooting, trips to various shooting venues like Perry and state tournaments will occasionally put me out of pocket. I will continue to do my best to answer any and all messages sent to me while I'm gone.
